From a young age Rebecca (Bex) Cleary aspired to someday open her own salon. Before attending Paul Mitchell the School Schenectady in 2010, Bex went to Dean College to get her Associates degree in Business Administration. This gave her the foundation she would eventually need as a businesswoman. She decided it was time to expand her brand and open a brick and mortar location in her hometown of Schenectady, NY. Moving from Austin, TX, Bex was inspired by the rejuvenation of Schenectady and felt the community would benefit from high quality hair services. Bex therefore decided it was time to stand apart from traditional salons and raise the market bar with beauty expertise!
The art, history, talent and everything in between of the beauty industry has always intrigued Bex. She knew that her business would be in beauty and she knew that she wanted to be the absolute best in it. Bex is a professional beauty expert that loves the feeling of making others feel like a better version of themselves. Confidence and beauty comes from within and a great haircut just emulates that!
Bex has been a licensed beauty professional for 9 years and was one of the first students to graduate from PMTS Schenectady. It was there that the importance of a positive culture in a salon environment was instilled. From there she studied with her sister-in-law in Waterford, Ireland learning about makeup artistry at Beautyteam
Studios. New York City was the next stop on her career journey. Bex apprenticed for 3 years in the cutting/styling department at mizu salon on Park ave. It was there that she developed her proficiency in precision cutting and expertise in razor artistry. Mentors have always been a major part of Bex’s career and it was a no brainer when industry legend Donald Scott personally asked her to join his educational team when the company rebranded as Donald Scott NYC from their original parent company Paul Mitchell. Bex now travels the country sharing her knowledge with hair artists from around the world.
Bex couldn’t think of a better place to open her business and 234 Union st was a location that appeared to find her. Nestled in the beautiful Stockade historic district the building speaks volumes of natural historic beauty and truly emulates everything that Bex stands for.
Not only is Bex a ‘nickname’ for the owner it also serves an acronym for “Beauty Experience” performed by a “Beauty Expert.” BEX will have an apprentice program that will allow licensed professionals to go through an extensive training program similar to what she went through in NYC. BEX will also have a blow dry styling bar that will highlight historical prominent women on the menu all from Schenectady county - the apprentice’s trained by Bex
will be working the blow dry styling bar expected to launch just in time for summer.
